We Believe
To be God’s family here at Wentworthville Baptist Church we hold to the following core values;
The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word for all of life and it is the foundation for our preaching and teaching.
Prayer
We are changed through prayer and together in prayer we discover God’s will and directions.
Fellowship
Together as the family of God we form His community for witness, ministry and service.
Evangelism
Having been lost and only saved through Grace, our mission is to take the Good News to the local community and the whole world.
Social Needs
Following Christ in servant hood, we will be relevant to the needs of people with mercy and justice.
Leadership - Unity
Under God’s Grace, in all things we will be united in love, to help all find, and support all to use; their gifts to the glory of God.
Worship
As servants we will give of ourselves in appropriate, vibrant worship to God our Creator, Christ our Saviour and the Holy Spirit our Counsel
OUR MISSION
OUR COMMUNITY
We have been in the community for almost 100 years and have a long history from our humble beginnings on the outskirts of Sydney to the development of our current buildings and activity within the community God has indeed been faithful.
The Wentworthville Baptist Church began in 1924. The initial impetus and major encouragement to start the work came from the Petersham Baptist Mens' Society.
On the 7th of July that year the first recorded business meeting was held in `Dawlish', Boronia Street, the home of Mrs Ley. Mr Perriton, a local builder, chaired that meeting. On Sunday the 19th April, 1925, the church was officially constituted as a member of the Baptist Union of NSW. Saturday the 2nd May, 1925, saw the opening of the first church building; `Boronia Hall'. It was built on the spot where the Boronia Street car park entrance now is and cost £120 ($240).
